Hello solvers,
It's Dan from the Cryptic crew again, filling in for Nate, who edited this puzzle before jetting off with his husband to an undisclosed overseas vacation location. Our constructor this week is Lily Geller, a brilliant puzzle mind who's had cryptics in the New Yorker and the Browser as well as right here at AVCX.

As the mother of a rambunctious six-year-old, Lily Geller is perpetually tired but makes poor choices nightly about staying up too late. Her son recently penned a joke: "The ball fell; now it is a bell." (They're still workshopping that one.) This puzzle would not exist without the steady encouragement of Steve Mossberg and the patient, collaborative efforts of editor Nate Cardin. We hope you enjoy it!
