Puzzle Notes

Dear Friends:

Many years (including this one) we are fortunate to run a holiday puzzle from the absolute all-timer Liz Gorski, who has a themed themeless this week called "Holiday Assortment," at 2.5/5 difficulty. Always a delight to work with Liz, and we hope you enjoy it.

Oh and holy smokes, we met our Kickstarter goal! You can (and should!) certainly still donate, but this means that the AVCXpansion is officially happening. Starting early next year you'll get near-daily puzzle content, and it will be rich -- midis, more crosswords, cryptics, and trivia. We got great feedback from hype week, when we sent sample puzzles to give a feel for the expansion. You had lots of flattering things to say about the puzzles themselves. But we also heard that not everyone wants to get individual emails for each puzzle. So we're looking into some kind of digest option: more soon. Thanks for your words, both kind and constructively critical.

The solution to last weekend's trivia contest is attached. Aimee Lucido writes: Thanks to everyone who participated in our first-ever AVCX Trivia tournament! We are blown away by how many answer submissions we got and we're incredibly excited to keep coming up with interesting trivia-based puzzles for you. And, because this first puzzle was also a contest, we have winners to announce. The winner is.... Alan Miner! Congratulations, Alan, you now have a free one-year's subscription to the expanded AVCX for yourself or a friend! Happy holidays to everyone and looking forward to new and exciting puzzles in the new year.
