Dear friends:

Today's puzzle comes to you from guest constructor Wendy L. Brandes! "Fall Backwards" is an 11x13 treat that we expect you to find as breezy as a crisp autumn day.

Wendy is thrilled to be making her Lil AVC X debut with this puzzle. Wendy is a lawyer, professor (shout-out to SUNY!), children's book author, and puzzle constructor. She is always looking to collaborate, so give her a shout if you want to work on something in the near future!

Wendy says: "Our family adopted a rescue pup, Lola, over the summer. She consistently gets up around 5:30 AM, leaving us very worried about what will happen when we 'Fall Backwards' this year! Look for a few clues about Lola in this puzzle (they are among my favorites). Many thanks to Olivia for her superb edits and her great idea for the theme entry at 21-Across.
