BIG congrats to the AVCX's own Francis Heaney, who won this year's Lollapuzzoola crossword-solving tournament in Manhattan last weekend. The aforementioned Erik Agard also reached the top three, and competed in the finals against Francis and friend-of-the-AVCX Trip Payne. Great work by everyone who competed! My word, is that a fun and pos-vibes kind of tournament. Go next year if you can. Oh, and the puzzles were outstanding. You can get the full set here.

Here's something exciting and free: the AVCX organized a kind of experimental advertisement for Lollapuzoola, which was a free booklet of sample puzzles from about fifteen different indie puzzlemakers. If you visit indiexwords.com, you can download the full set of puzzles at no charge. The solutions are on the same site. The puzzles include some of the larger and better-known services, as well as a number of new and up-and-coming outlets. Check 'em out and see what you like. The idea is to promote and raise awareness about the great variety of indie puzzles on the scene nowadays.
