Puzzle Notes

Hello intrepid cryptic solvers! We've got a double debut this week: Mine, as a cryptic editor, and Byron Walden's as a cryptic constructor. You likely already know Byron from AVCX Classic as a prolific constructor of clever, fun standard American crosswords, and he's found a way to bring his signature elevated dad-joke style to his first cryptic. For those of us old enough to have attended a certain American Crossword Puzzle Tournament...well, I'll say no more lest I spoil.
