Puzzle Notes

Dear friends,

This week's joint is constructed by Brooke Husic and Enrique Henestroza Anguiano, and edited by Quiara Vasquez -- her first editorial gig here! It's called (maybe aptly) "Paving the Way for the Future," and is 3.5/5 difficulty.
Brooke and Enrique are thrilled to share this puzzle that has personal meaning for both. They also co-maintain spread the word(list), a free wordlist for newer crossword constructors, and along with Chris Piuma are heading up the new Lil AVC X midi branch of the AVCX expansion.

Last week's puzzle went to many people's spam boxes -- double-check there if you didn't see it, and our apologies.

Expansion update! We're aiming for a February 14 launch for all of the expansion features. Thanks to everyone who's filled out the Kickstarter survey already. Once we have those responses, we'll process all of the extensions and start working on delivering the rewards. And after the expansion features start, we'll begin rolling out the new website as well as other features. Thank you!!

Finally, we wanted to plug a new book by AVCX forever-friend Oliver Roeder, who has a new puzzle book. It's called Seven Games: A Human History, and it is "a group biography of seven enduring and beloved games, and the story of why and how we play them." The games covered are checkers, backgammon, chess, go, poker, Scrabble, and bridge. Ollie is a great writer who's been around the crossword community for many years, and we recommend picking up a copy of his new volume.

Yrs,
Ben and the expanded AVCX crew
