A PSA about an upcoming puzzle tournament from some friends out west: are you looking for a crossword tournament that doesn't require any knowledge of the Acela, or indeed, any aspect of the Northeast Corridor? Join us for the third annual Westwords, the only extant West Coast crossword tournament (that we know of), on Sunday, June 14th, 2026. Solvers may compete in person, in Berkeley, CA, or online (same puzzles, same time, separate scoring). The online program is open to anyone anywhere (even Northeasterners) and includes a livestream hosted by Boswords' John Lieb. Register at
